2023-2024 Awards for Student Learning Assessment Practices
The Assessment Subcommittee annually reviews nominees' annual program assessment reports and selects the Excellence in Assessment award recipients. An award in the same category for the second time is designated Continued Excellence, and third-year awards in the same category are designated Sustained Excellence.
Communication Sciences & Disorders B.A.Sc.
Measurement (Sustained). For the third consecutive year, the undergraduate program continues to use multiple measures for assessing each student numerous times throughout the curriculum, with common rubrics used by all faculty. Faculty review measures for validity, reliability, and fairness through a formal standardized process posted for all to review. The program's APA Report included multiple assessment sources for measuring and evaluating program learning outcomes.

Computer Science B.A. & B.S.
Measurement (Excellence). The undergraduate program utilizes multiple direct measures across various courses to assess students throughout the curriculum. Faculty review these measures for validity and fairness through a formal standardized process. The program also has a transparent data analysis process, which is used to ensure consistency over time. Data are stored in a database, enabling ongoing analysis to measure student learning and evaluate program learning outcomes over time.

Chemical Engineering B.S.Ch.E.
Program Development (Excellence). The undergraduate program has a formalized process for the ongoing review of continuous improvement and the documented progress of action items. Although the results indicated no need for significant changes to student learning, the program identified potential enhancements to further enrich the student learning experience. The implementation of the SAIL program has helped to integrate student learning across the program's instruction to give students confidence in their achievement of program learning outcomes.

Theatre Performance B.F.A.
Program Development (Excellence). The undergraduate program has a formalized process for reviewing recommendations and engaging in discussions to implement improvements that positively impact the student learning experience. World Languages & Cultures Programs
Rubric Development. The department has implemented a collaborative rubric used by Chinese Area Studies, French Studies, German Studies, and Spanish Studies. The World Languages & Cultures faculty assessment committee developed this rubric to assess language proficiency in speaking and writing, as well as cultural competency, based on best practices from other colleges and universities. The committee regularly meets to evaluate the rubric’s impact on student learning and make updates as needed.
